Our Summer Sweeper Series finale was this past Wednesday night, and there were six bowlers remaining that all had a shot at the title! The action on the house pattern did not disappoint, as the title was not decided until the last round was complete!
The qualifying rounds allowed the final standings to start to take shape, as the bowlers were gunning for as many points as possible in order to improve their chances at the guaranteed $1000 top prize! The leader going into the night, Sam Irizarry, squeezed into the cut by just 5 pins, while Amanda Ziegeweid missed the cut, which guaranteed that Sam would finish ahead of here, but he had work to do to hold off a fury of other challengers. Scott Mcdougal was high scratch to miss the cut, earning a point, and ending in a tie for fifth place, splitting that $100 prize with Payton Nabak! Congratulations guys!
The round of 18 was not kind to many of the bowlers left in the chase, as Sam Irizarry, Dennis Schoberg, and Payton Nabak were all eliminated, leaving Mike Hungelmann as the lone person left who could catch Sam! Mike made the cut to 9 and also the cut to the final 4, giving him a chance to challenge Sam for the title! Our finalists for this event were Ben Minerley, Mike Hungelmann, Amber Duty, and Katie Thousand. Though Mike battled back strong, Ben was not to be stopped in the finals, throwing a 274 game to seal up the win!
For the season standings, that left the fifth place tie for Scott and Payton, a three-way tie for 2nd place between Mike, Amanda, and Dennis (each getting their share of $1100) and alone atop the standings, your 2024 Summer Sweeper Series champion, Sam Irizarry! Congratulations Sam! He is the first to display our brand new trophy to commemorate the winners!
Thank you so much to everyone that came out this summer to support the series! There will be some fantastic changes and updates to the series next year to make it even better for everyone. There will be three divisions (scratch, handicap, and senior), a double points option to use once per season, a few sanctioned events, and much more!

It was definitely a long fought and challenging sweeper series with lots of ups and downs, but I enjoyed myself very much. Im in Vegas right now spending those winnings, lol. I want to give a shout out to Kevin and LeeAnn because without you these events and sweepers wouldn't be possible. I appreciate you're dedication to the business, to your loyal bowlers and to the sport.
